Imaginary Lines Quartet

Walter Gershon (Saxophones, Afro-Caribbean Percussion), Brandon Davis (Bass), Jonathan Kay (Saxophones/extensions), Joe Sorbara (Drums, assorted percussion)

This album was recorded at community space Silence in Guelph, Ontario on May 22nd and 23rd, 2024 and is the inaugural album from this newly assembled collective. Group members Walter Gershon, Joe Sorbara, and Jonathan Kay met during the 2023 iteration of the 24-hr Improvisation Festival (IF) associated with the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation (IICSI) the previous fall where they both played and presented their scholarly work on improvising. Joined by Brandon Davis, this is recording is also our group’s first time playing together in this configuration. In keeping with the collective’s take on things, the album name is a form of serious play. Pitched by Joe to tease Walter who, for the first time in his life, forgot his passport and was delayed in his travels getting from Chicago to Guelph, the album title also grew on the group as both a literal and metaphorical expression for their lives and the paths taken on this
